Your 'Dream' Room

Friday, 28th August 2015

The bedroom is often the least likely room in your home to be seen by guests, but it is the room where you will spend a lot of time and should be your sanctuary - your haven where you can leave the maddening world behind.

Your bedroom should not only be a place of peace and tranquility, but should also reflect your personal style more so than any other room in the home.

Is your style Contemporary? Romantic? Colourful? Dramatic? Quirky? Traditional? There are so many different styles to choose!

Consider the design elements of your bedroom first of all. Do you want a dramatic entrance to this room with double doors? Is natural light important and, if so, do you prefer highlight windows or wide floor to ceiling windows to take advantage of views? You may want doors that open to a balcony, pool or courtyard area.

Also think about your colour scheme. Some people prefer bright colours for a vibrant feel, although most people find a neutral colour palette more calming in the bedroom and you can always play with pops of colour in the form of bedding, cushions, throws or even artwork.

Another important decision is the style of lighting you want for your bedroom. Pendant lighting, lamps or even a touch of the luxurious with a drop chandelier may be part of your style.

If you have the space, you can incorporate a reading nook, chaise lounge or even a sumptuous dressing area to your bedroom. If you're working with a smaller space, built in robes ensure clean lines and hide any clutter.

Whatever your style and whether your room is minimalistic chic or full to the brim with eclectic items and personal trinkets, ensure it's a room you'll be glad to relax in at the end of the day.

Here's just a few bedroom styles to inspire your own 'favourite room of the house'!
