The Great Outdoors

Spring has sprung and it's now that time of year when everyone is ready to shake off the winter blues and start enjoying the outdoors again. Your home's outdoor area is often a reflection of your personality and lifestyle - whether it's a tranquil area to enjoy a book or a vibrant entertaining space friends and family will love being a part of.

When you're designing your outdoor space, landscaping plays a big part. Manicured lawns, landscaped gardens, sculptures, decking and even water features, can bring this area to life.

Garden lighting should be considered in your initial planning stages. The right garden lights can highlight feature plants, steps, decking and paths and looks fantastic at night whether you're dining alfresco or looking out onto the garden area from inside.

Outdoor kitchens have grown in popularity over the years, mostly due to the Aussie love affair with the great outdoors and dining outside as often as possible. These days the outdoor kitchen can rival your indoor one for style, space and features - including state of the art BBQs and wood fire ovens, or integrated fridges, sinks and food preparation areas. The options are only limited by your space, budget and imagination!

The right outdoor furniture is also an important consideration. Will your space need an outdoor dining setting, or a more casual lounge setting? Will you want heating or cooling to maximise the time you spend out there? Or perhaps you'd like to incorporate  speakers or a TV screen - all features that will require initial thought for your electrical plan.

Potted plants, lanterns, outdoor cushions and accessories can be regularly and easily updated with changing trends, but the overall design and layout of your outdoor area should be considered early in the planning stages of your new home to ensure you create a space you'll love spending time in!
